I’ve always had a little bit of Tennessee with me at every point in my career, thanks to my best friend, Judy Ogle. She traveled with me, worked as my assistant and was there for anything I needed. We had so many adventures and so many laughs – and I can’t imagine my years on the road (or my life) – without her!

Introduction

No matter where my career has taken me, from the quiet hills of Tennessee to the brightest stages in the world, I have always carried a little piece of home with me, and much of that is because of my best friend, Judy Ogle. Judy has been part of my life for longer than most people can imagine. We grew up together, shared dreams before either of us knew where life would lead, and built a friendship strong enough to survive distance, fame, hard work, and the passing of time. When my career began moving faster than I ever expected, Judy was right there beside me. She traveled with me from city to city, helped me manage the endless details of life on the road, worked as my assistant, and somehow always knew what I needed before I even had to ask. Yet her greatest gift was never simply the work she did. It was the comfort of having someone near me who knew the girl behind the rhinestones, the wigs, the songs, and the spotlight. Judy knew my roots, my family, my fears, my sense of humor, and the dreams I had carried since childhood. In a business where people often see only the performer, she always saw the person. We shared long bus rides, early mornings, late nights, missed turns, hurried meals, backstage chaos, and more hotel rooms than either of us could count. We also shared laughter—the kind that makes your stomach hurt, brings tears to your eyes, and turns an ordinary moment into a memory you carry forever. There were adventures that felt glamorous and others that were simply ridiculous, but Judy had a way of making every experience feel warmer, lighter, and more like home. When the road became exhausting, she gave me strength. When success felt overwhelming, she kept me grounded. When something went wrong, she helped me solve it. And when life gave us something worth celebrating, she was always one of the first people I wanted beside me. True friendship is not measured only by how many years people have known each other. It is measured by loyalty, trust, shared history, and the quiet certainty that someone will stand beside you when life becomes difficult. Judy has been that kind of friend to me. She has seen triumphs and disappointments, heard new songs before the world did, and witnessed moments that never appeared in magazines or on television. She was there for the work, but more importantly, she was there for the life happening around the work. Looking back, I cannot separate many of my greatest memories from her presence. She helped bring Tennessee with me wherever I went—not just as a place, but as a feeling of honesty, familiarity, humor, and love. The road gave me a career beyond my wildest dreams, but Judy helped make that road feel less lonely. I cannot imagine those years of travel without her, and honestly, I cannot imagine my life without her either. Through every changing season, she has remained a steady reminder of who I am, where I came from, and why the simplest blessings—faith, laughter, loyalty, and love—will always matter most to me. Some people become part of your story; others become part of your heart. Judy Ogle has always been both.
